Biography:
Dhruv Baker, 34, was crowned winner of BBC One’s MasterChef 2010 in April, impressing judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with his stunning flavour combinations.
Dhruv Baker, 34, was born in Mexico where he lived with his parents until he was four, and then moved to India where he first discovered his passion for food. His Indian mother was instrumental in his love of cooking and her influences were instilled in him long before he consciously realised. It was only after leaving university that he was able to really explore food and cooking, and develop his interest and passion.
Dhruv loves all aspects of cooking but has become increasingly interested in spices and using them in ways other than one would expect. His winning menu consisted of a starter of Saffron and Ginger Poached Lobster Tail with Celeriac Puree on Blanched Fennel with a Beurre Noisette Foam, a main of Venison with a Potato, Brunoise and Fenugreek Crust, Sugar Glazed Carrots on a Carrot and Cumin Puree, Confit Chestnuts and a Venison Jus, and a Trio of Desserts consisting of: Poached Pear in Sauterne and Star Anise, Masala Chai Ice-cream, and a Chocolate Truffle with a Pistachio Topping.
Dhruv was a board director at Hi Tech Media where he worked for nearly 10 years. He gave up his job during the filming of MasterChef to pursue his dream of a future in cooking. The goal is to open a restaurant but he wants to learn more by working in kitchens first.
Since winning MasterChef he has been working stages with Michel Roux Jr at Le Gavroche, Jonnie Boer at De Librije in Holland and also cooking for private events. He lives in London with his wife Aileen and their son, Arun.
