SLOW FOOD UK AND THE BBC GOOD FOOD SHOWS CONTINUE PARTNERSHIP FOR 2009
BBC Haymarket Exhibitions and Slow Food UK are delighted to announce the continuation of their partnership enabling the key messages of the Slow Food Movement to be communicated to thousands of ardent food lovers via the BBC Good Food Shows during 2009.
The BBC Good Food Shows are the UK’s leading food and drink events, and take place in Birmingham, Glasgow and London attracting over 300,000 people. Over the past seven years, the Shows have made a commitment to promoting regional producers with the Producers’ Village, a dedicated exhibition space which now forms the largest part of each Show and acts as a showcase of the very best produce available.
Slow Food UK is part of the 80,000-strong Slow Food multicultural speciality movement, which promotes food that is good, clean and fair. In the UK this is achieved by spreading taste education, defending biodiversity, connecting producers with co-producers and encouraging young people to engage with the future of Slow Food.
Having taken part in the BBC Good Food Shows in 2008 we are looking forward to returning in 2009. The Show provided us with the perfect platform to raise awareness of our product while also supporting the wider Slow Food movement. Being part of the Slow Food Pavilion, located with other artisan producers of good, clean and fair produce, helped us to communicate these aspects of our approach to food production. Fiona Asson, Fish in a box
Building on the success of the partnership in 2008 the BBC Good Food Show and Slow Food Bursary are pleased to confirm there will again be a Slow Food pavilion at each show with subsidised stands for producers representing the best in good food. There will also be an extensive schedule of Slow Food Taste Workshops at each Show, drawing on the extensive expertise of the Slow Food’s movement’s members and taste education programmes.
“We are delighted to be attending the BBC Good Food Shows again to present a wide cross section of producers from across the UK. These small scale artisan producers are so important to good food in the UK and are fundamental to the Slow Food Movement. In addition our taste workshops will provide visitors with the opportunity to taste and enjoy and learn about the fantastic food that is being produced with care and flair by small producers all over the country. Through these workshops we can inspire visitors and help to safeguard our cultural heritage.” Alan Roe, Vice Chair of Slow Food UK Trust
Laura Biggs, Managing Director of BBC Haymarket Exhibitions comments We are very pleased to be working with Slow Food UK once again at the Good Food Shows. Their presence enables us to share the importance of protecting our food culture with thousands of food lovers across the UK, as well as providing a fantastic feature within the show.”
